Microcosmos October 22, 7:30 PM
Microcosmos is Canada's newest string quartet. Formed by four distinguished chamber musicians, Microcosmos explores music from the rich repertoire of the past one hundred years. The quartet's initial program includes the first string quartets by two of the greatest 20th century composers: Béla Bartok, whose study of the folk melodies of his native Hungary strongly influenced his compositions, and Dmitri Shostakovitch, whose later music was very much affected by his tormented life under Stalin, but said of this work: "I visualized childhood scenes, somewhat naïve and bright moods associated with spring."
The members of Microcosmos are Marc Destrubé (violin), Andrea Siradze (violin), Tawnya Popoff (viola) and Peggy Lee (cello).
House doors open at 7 pm, concert starts at 7:30 pm. Seating is limited so come early.
