FRIDAY NIGHT CONCERTS The Library's Friday Night Concert Series features a wide spectrum of live music and an interesting mix of performers.
With six concerts each season, we offer something for every musical taste - from classical piano to jazz quartet, from opera to world music.
Come early for best seating. Concerts are free, open to all, with refreshments compliments of the Friends of the Library. Doors open at 7 pm. Concerts start at 7:30 and end at approximately 8:45 pm.
Jazz Talks with Neil Ritchie Tuesdays, April 24, May 1, 8, 15, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, Welsh Hall.
This series will focus on the great lyricists of Tin Pan Alley: Johnny Mercer, Ira Gershwin, Noel Coward and Dorothy Fields
April 24 Johnny Mercer the lyricist, radio personality, record mogul, singer and composer who wrote lyrics that could make you laugh or cry
May 1 Ira Gershwin: Ira wrote conversational songs. Devastated by the death of his brother George, he continued to write some standards with other composers
May 8 Noel Coward lyricist/composer with an English perspective who also added playwright, actor, singer and movie star to his resumι
May 15 Dorothy Fields the daughter of a vaudeville comedian, Dorothy got her start writing Broadway revues in the late 20s with Jimmy McHugh. She went on to write with Jerome Kern and Cy Coleman
Kodaly Orff Music for Children An 8 week sampler for preschoolers, offered three times each year. Children experience the joy of making music through song, games, dance and instruments. This program develops skills children will carry with them to further music lessons. For more information contact the Youth Department at 604-925-7408.
